Coimbatore: The Tirupur District Women’s Court sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment 2021 to a 33-year-old man for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on the man and ordered the state government to provide Rs 4 lakh to the girl.
R Nagaraj of Karalayam Near Sathyamangalam Erode Zilla used to work as a motorcycle mechanic. A 12-year-old girl used to go to the temple alone and fell in love with him. He promised the minor girl that he would marry her. They fled on January 25, 2021. Her family members lodged a missing complaint of a girl with the Cheyyur police, which registered a case on January 27, 2021.
Nagaraj married the minor girl in a temple and took her to Sathyamangalam and Mysore where he repeatedly sexually assaulted her. However, the police traced his whereabouts and arrested him on February 3, 2021.
During interrogation, the girl told the police that Nagraj sexually assaulted her repeatedly. Based on the girl’s complaint, the Cheyur police registered a case against Nagaraj under Section 5(l) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act along with Section 6, 366A of the Indian Penal Code and 9 of the Child Prohibition Act. . Marriage Act.
Nagraj was arrested. However, he came out of the Central Jail on April 8, 2022 after obtaining conditional bail. Later, he failed to appear in court. The case was heard in the Tiruppur District Women’s Court. Special Public Prosecutor B Jameela Bano appeared for the prosecution.
Mahila Court Judge D Balu pronounced the verdict on Thursday. Nagraj was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Jail.
