Man strips in Vatican church to protest Ukraine war

The man, who has not been identified, had a sign on his back that read “The children of Ukraine must be saved”. The incident happened just before the church was closed on Thursday (local time).

Tourists clicked pictures of the naked man and went viral on social media.

The man had cut himself on his body with his fingernails, according to a Vatican source, news agency Reuters reported.

The man was handed over to the Italian police by the Vatican guards.

The source said Vatican guards handed over the man, who was not identified. The incident took place just before the closure of the cathedral on Thursday afternoon.

In 2016, a man wearing just a backpack and a pair of trainers was arrested after being found walking naked in the St. Peter’s Basilica complex.

The man, identified as Luis Carlos Cherubino, an Italian of Brazilian origin, was caught after he was stripped of his clothes.

Cherubino is believed to have made his way up to the high altar in the main nave of the church, where the Pope usually delivers his sermon, reports Metro UK. A picture of him went viral on social media.
