Gurgaon: A Manesar resident allegedly faked his wife’s death to claim Rs 1 crore as insurance, procuring bogus documents from a private hospital in Jaipur, which he then took to the municipality to gain an original death certificate.
He used this to file the claim. The forgery was discovered during the claim verification process by the insurance company.Verifiers found the woman whose death they were investigating to be alive and well at her residence.
Jatin admitted his wife to the private hospital in April 2023. The couple left the hospital after getting some tests done.
But, according to the insurance company, he conspired with staff at the hospital to get her declared dead.
Her death was registered on the hospital’s identity portal on April 6.
Citing this, Jatin obtained a death certificate from the Municipal Corporation of Greater Jaipur. In July, Jatin filed his claim for Rs 1 crore.
They had a policy with a leading finance company.
Pradeep Pareek, registrar (birth-death), Municipal Corporation of Greater Jaipur, said he insurance company wrote to the corporation, seeking verification of the death certificate. “We issue a death certificate once a registration is done on a hospital’s identity portal. Apart from this, a funeral report prepared from the cremation ground or cemetery is also taken into consideration. In this case, we had received the portal registration, hence we issued the death certificate,” Pareek said.
Latesh Gupta, deputy registrar at the corporation, said the death certificate was cancelled this week and legal action may now be initiated against those involved in the conspiracy.
