Any unorganized worker in the age group of 18-40 years, whose job is casual in nature, whose monthly income is less than Rs 15,000, can enroll in this scheme. The employee should not be covered under any statutory social security scheme like National Pension Scheme (NPS), Employees State Insurance Corporation Scheme, Employees Provident Fund Scheme and is not an income tax payer.
If an unorganized worker subscribes to this scheme and pays regular contribution till the age of 60 years, then he will get minimum monthly pension of Rs. 3000. After his death, the spouse will get monthly family pension which is 50% of the pension. Once the beneficiary joins the scheme at an entry age between 18-40 years, he has to contribute till he attains the age of 60 years. The pension will start on the subscriber attaining the age of 60 years.
Customers can visit the nearest CSC and get enrolled for PM-SYM by using Aadhaar number and Savings Bank Account/ Jan-Dhan Account Number on the basis of self-certification. No separate proof of age or income will be required. Self attestation and providing Aadhaar number will be the basis for enrollment. LIC will be the fund manager and also the service provider for pension payment. The fund is 100% safe. The overall responsibility for the management and supervision of the Fund will rest with the National Social Security Board which is headed by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Labor and Employment.
