MANGALURU: The Palakkad Railway officials have given the nod for extension of Mangaluru-Vijayapura train to Mangaluru Central from Mangaluru Junction.
According to the plan, the train will arrive at Mangaluru Central at 1pm and depart to Vijayapura at 2.35pm. They also assured that steps would be taken to extend the services of Mangaluru-Yesvantpur weekly train to Central from Junction. The train departs from Mangaluru Junction toYesvantpur at 7 pm.
This was informed during the 163rd Meeting of Divisional Rail Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of Palakkad Division held at Divisional Railway Manager‘s office on Thursday.
The officials noted that the demand to extend the Mumbai CSTM- Mangaluru Junction train to Central would not be possible in the existing time-table. If the Konkan railway speed up the train to reach Junction early, the services could be extended to Central, the officials said.
Arun Kumar Chaturvedi, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad, chaired the meeting. Arun Thomas Kalathikal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Secretary of DRUCC gave a brief on the functioning of DRUCC and the achievements of Palakkad Division through a presentation.
Hanumanth Kamath, member, DRUCC, also President, Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivruddhi Samithi, cautioned that unless the services of Mangaluru-Mumbai CST superfast, Mangaluru-Bengaluru Gomateshwara Express and Mangaluru-Vijayapura Express are extended to Central from Junction, they would oppose any new train to be started from Central, barring Vande Bharat Train.
The officials also informed that the newly constructed Platform Overbridge at Central would be available for public use by December end.
Regarding another demand of Samithi to double the Central to Junction railway line, the officials noted that the traffic was less and they did not feel the need for doubling the line at present.
Fourteen members representing trade bodies, passenger associations, industries, consumer organisations, and representatives of Members of Parliament attended the meeting. The meeting extensively covered subjects pertaining to stoppages, ticketing facilities, and passenger amenities, with a detailed examination of each. Furthermore, the progress of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme within Palakkad Division was thoroughly discussed and assessed. The suggestions provided by the members were noted, and in response, the Divisional Railway Manager affirmed that the division would carefully assess the feasibility of each suggestion, with the commitment to implement those deemed viable.
