The film marks the reunion of Ratnam and Haasan after 36 years.

The project was tentatively titled KH234 and will also feature Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Dulquer Salman.

Kamal Haasan has been basking in the glory of his last release Vikram and is now looking forward to the release of his next, Indian 2.

Recently, Raaj Kamal Films, the producers of Haasan’s next with Mani Ratnam – with whom he’s reuniting after 36 years – unveiled the title of his next and also provided a teaser of the same, making the fans go gaga. Incidentally, today, Nov 7, is also the birthday of India’s ‘Ulaga Nayagan’ who turns 69.

Titled Thug Life, the teaser’s attractive aspect lies in the South Tamil Nadu dialect and the dialogues, which appear out of place within the dystopian setting and costumes.

In the teaser, Kamal declares, “My name is Rengaraya Sakthivel Nayakan.” As he speaks to the camera, a menacing gang rapidly approaches him armed with deadly weapons. He continues, “Kayalpattu Kaaran. The instant I was born, they predetermined my destiny as a criminal… a thug… Yakuza. In Japanese, Yakuza means gangster.”

Following this revelation, Kamal removes his hood, unveiling his distinctive, rugged martial arts attire.

It remains uncertain whether the film is situated in the past, future, or a fantasy realm.

The makers have also revealed that Thug Life features key roles played by Dulquer Salmaan, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. The film’s music is composed by AR Rahman, and it will be edited by Sreekar Prasad. Notably, this movie marks the second collaboration between Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan, who previously worked together on Nayakan in 1987.

Thug Life is a joint production between Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, and Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies. AR Rahman is composing the film’s music, while Sreekar Prasad is in charge of editing. The cinematographer is Ravi K Chandran, and the stunt choreography is handled by the duo AnbAriv.
