Miss world Contest winner and actress Manushi Chhillar has a lot to look forward to in 2023. After making her acting debut last year with Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj, she is now awaiting the release of her second project. The film, titled Tehran, is reportedly a geopolitical thriller inspired by true events and will see her in an action-oriented avatar. Manushi, who is all set to surprise the audience with her performance in the John Abraham starrer and other upcoming films, exclusively spoke to News18 about the resolutions she has made for this year.

She says, “My professional resolution for 2023 is to make it an even more satisfying year than 2022. We spent in lockdown. I am not putting any pressure on myself but I am hopeful that I can do this. I want to give my best to my career and grow as an actor. I want to learn more skills. I am excited to explore the opportunities that have come my way.”

On the personal front, she intends to pursue an old hobby and strike a work-life balance. “I am looking forward to have a beautiful vacation with my family and spend more quality time with them. I had to give up painting when I started studying for 12th board exams and preparing for medical entrance. Started doing it again during the lockdown. I want to get better at painting,” she added, adding, “I’m also planning to learn piano. I’ve been planning it since my birthday and have been working for seven months. And I haven’t started yet. I hope now I will get time to learn it.”

Looking back on the year gone by, she states that it has been an ‘amazing’ year as it helped her discover herself in a big way with her debut film. “2022 has given me a lot. The biggest feature is that my first film released this year. Also, I got a chance to shoot for Tehran, which was an amazing experience and very different from other films I have shot for. I have so much to be thankful for over the past year. I was very satisfied with how it was,” she comments.

The 25-year-old further added, “It has only excited me and given me things to look forward to in 2023. 2022 was full of great work opportunities, great time with family, learning and traveling. It was also about personal growth and learning, which made the year even more enjoyable.”

For the unversed, Emperor Prithviraj saw her playing Princess Sanyogita, the wife of Prithviraj Chauhan. Although it gave her wider visibility, the film performed underwhelming at the box office and opened to mixed responses. But Manushi said that it did not bother her. “I never expected that I would act and get reactions for it – good or bad – someday. Before coming to films, I did something that made me very popular and that was Miss World. I learned that there will be people who will like you and there will be people who won’t,” she elaborates.

She states that she is not one to get distracted and disheartened by the performance of a film. So, how did he deal with the comments surrounding his debut? “I didn’t take them personally as this was work. From what I have seen and understood, failure and success are very personal. Fortunately, most of the responses I got were good and hence, I have nothing to complain about Yes, the film got mixed response and that is absolutely fine.

An optimist, Manushi chose to focus on the positives. Ask her about her biggest learning from Emperor Prithviraj and she says, “So many factors play a role in making an audience like a film – from conceptualization of the idea and scripting to post-production and release. Making a film is teamwork.” There will be times when the audience will love a film and there will be times when they will reject a film. I don’t think Samrat Prithviraj’s performance instilled any self-doubt, but it taught me that my The job is to give your best.
