Acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese and his daughter Francesca are set to charm audiences in SquareSpace’s latest Super Bowl campaign. The teaser, unveiled on Monday, offers a glimpse into the duo’s playful interaction as they navigate the creation of a website together. Known for their endearing banter on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, Martin and Francesca Scorsese bring their infectious chemistry to the forefront in the SquareSpace ad. The teaser showcases Martin’s humorous attempts at website building, with Francesca stepping in as the behind-the-scenes creative director.

In a nod to Martin’s cinematic prowess, he expresses his vision for the website as an “intergalactic plea for connection,” albeit admitting his unfamiliarity with the science fiction genre. As the duo explores domain names and font choices, viewers are treated to a heartwarming exchange that mirrors their online persona.

Francesca, a Tisch graduate with a penchant for darker themes in her work, sheds light on the humorous side of their collaboration. Despite her father’s occasional forays into Gen Z slang, she finds amusement in his efforts to stay current with her generation.

“I feel like hearing your dad say, ‘Oh yeah, that slaps,’ or, ‘I’m so woke,’ or whatever, it’s just so cringy to me,” Francesca quips in an interview with Vanity Fair. “He is from a different generation, so it’s a little funny because it feels like he is really trying to stay current with my generation and with me.”

However, the playful teasing is all in good fun, as Francesca admits to having no regrets about introducing her father to contemporary slang. Their partnership extends beyond the confines of the Super Bowl ad, with Francesca emphasizing their continued collaboration on various projects, including future TikTok endeavours.

Despite their lighthearted rapport, both Martin and Francesca are accomplished in their respective fields. Martin’s directorial legacy includes iconic films such as Goodfellas and Taxi Driver, while Francesca has made her mark as a creative force behind the scenes, contributing to projects like the Bleu de Chanel commercial featuring Timothée Chalamet.

At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, the Scorsese duo made waves with their respective projects: Martin with the Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon, and Francesca with her latest short film, Fish Out of Water.

Amidst her endeavours including co-authoring an A24 book with her father and crafting a short film inspired by her mother Helen Morris’s upbringing, Francesca took the time to converse with VF about her experiences growing up as a Scorsese, her attendance at the Oscars, and her perspective on embracing the label of being a “nepo-baby”.
