Hair and bone samples sent by the police for DNA mitochondrial profiling have been confirmed to be there. Shraddha Walker was murdered by her 28-year-old live-in partner Aftab Amin Poonawalla, a senior official said on January 4.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said the bone and hair samples from which DNA could not be extracted were sent to the Center for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) in Hyderabad for ‘DNA mitochondrial profiling’.

“On Wednesday, we received the test results. A piece of the alleged bone and a tuft of hair of the deceased matched with that of her father and brother, confirming the identity of the bone and hair as Shraddha Walker,” he said. .

He said that the ashes will now be sent for post-mortem which will be done by the Medical Board at AIIMS.

Information about Walker’s murder shook the entire nation after the Delhi Police arrested Poonawalla on November 12, who is currently in judicial custody.

After allegedly strangling Walker on May 18, Poonawalla cut her body into 35 pieces and kept them in a 300-litre fridge at his residence for about three weeks before disposing them across the city for several days.
