Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians in a thrilling match IPL 2023 match on Saturday. In the match played at Mumbai’s home ground Wankhede Stadium, Arshdeep Singh led PBKS to a 13-run win. Along with him, stand-in captain Sam Curran and Harpreet Singh Bhatia played a big role in the victory. MI elected to bowl after winning the toss. Electing to bat first, PBKS set a target of 215 runs. Mumbai batsmen were 13 runs short of chasing the target as they restricted MI to 201/6 in 20 overs. Interestingly, this is the first match won by Punjab against Mumbai at this venue since 2017.

In the last over, MI needed 16 runs to win and Arshdeep came to the rescue for PBKS. Giving just 1 run and throwing a dot ball, Arshdeep broke the middle stump and dismissed Tilak Verma. He also took back-to-back wickets in the next ball when he took the wicket of Nehal Wadhera. After this, he gave only 1 more run in the over. Arshdeep also became the wicketkeeper of IPL 2023 and became the new owner of the purple cap.

Mumbai Indians batsmen got off to a slow start in their chase as opener Ishan Kishan was dismissed for just one run. After this Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green steadied the inning. However, MI skipper Rohit was dismissed for 44 and Green contributed 67 runs before going back to the hut. Suryakumar Yadav took over the responsibility of scoring runs after Rohit’s dismissal.
