Microsoft, Alphabet, other AI companies urged to prioritize security measures

The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday urged the CEOs of several artificial intelligence (AI) companies to prioritize safeguards, tackle bias and roll out new technologies responsibly.

The need appears to be at the forefront of its work,” Warner said.

Earlier this month, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he had launched an effort to establish AI rules and address national security and education concerns, using programs such as chatgpt becomes widespread.

Schumer, a Democrat, said in a statement that he “drafted and circulated a framework that outlines a new regulatory regime that will prevent potentially catastrophic damage to our country, as well as ensure that Let America step up and move forward in this transformative technology.”

ChatGPT, an AI program that has recently attracted public attention for its ability to quickly compose answers to a wide range of questions, has particularly attracted the attention of US lawmakers. It has become the fastest growing consumer application in history with over 100 million monthly active users.

Microsoft is a major investor in OpenAI, which built ChatGPT. Software giants and Google are pouring billions of dollars into AI in a bid to gain an edge amid rising competition in Silicon Valley.
