Outrage after the young wrestler allegedly faced “discrimination” by the WFI.

in an exclusive interview with news 18 haryanaThe minor wrestler’s father clarified that he has just changed the statement in the court and has not withdrawn the case.

“We made the sexual harassment allegations in a fit of anger after my daughter was discriminated against by the WFI. Bhushan did not misbehave with my daughter. We have changed our statement under section 164 before the magistrate on 5th June. I was alone in this fight because at that time no one helped me except the fraternity of wrestlers. My family is living in shock since the matter came to light. On June 5, we clarified in the Supreme Court that there was no sexual harassment by the WFI chief. But, there are allegations of discrimination against WFI,” the father said.

He further said, ‘We changed our statement without any greed, pressure or fear. It is absolutely true that my daughter is a minor. We haven’t withdrawn the case, just changed the statement.”

Notably, a statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) before a magistrate has evidentiary value in the court.

The father’s reaction to the case came hours after several media reports claimed that the minor wrestler, on whose statement a Protection of Children from Child (POCSO) case was registered against Brij Bhushan, has withdrawn his complaint.

Meanwhile, the protesting wrestlers agreed to suspend their agitation till June 15 this evening after the government assured them of filing a charge sheet against Brij Bhushan by then and holding elections to the sports body by the end of the month.

Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik met Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, who invited them for a meeting to break the impasse, three days after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussing their demands.

After the meeting that lasted for about five hours, Malik and Punia told reporters that they were also assured that the FIRs lodged against them would be withdrawn. The protesting wrestlers and several of their supporters were booked on 28 May for violation of law and order when they marched towards the new Parliament building without permission.

However, both Malik and Punia insisted that their agitation was not over and they had only suspended their protest till June 15 at the request of the government. The marathon meeting between the wrestlers and Thakur comes amid the government’s efforts to reach out to top wrestlers, who have been protesting since April 23 demanding Brij Bhushan’s arrest.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Thakur said the meeting was held in a good atmosphere and in a positive manner and the government has accepted the demands of the protesting group.
