Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a customs official on Tuesday. painter jaiswalalong with three others who demanded and accepted Rs.12,000 Bribe to clear it from a dealer import consignment,
The CBI recovered Rs 5.8 lakh in cash during a search at the house of Customs Inspector Jaisaval. CBI recovered Rs 39,000 from the house of his alleged money collector Suraj Kadam. Kadam told the CBI officials that the entire day’s earnings came from Jaiswal on Tuesday.
It is alleged that Jaiswal did not take the bribe amount directly, but gave it to Kadam on his instructions. The CBI produced the four arrested accused in the court on Wednesday. The court sent him to CBI custody till Friday.
The complainant, a businessman from Pune, has been importing High Frequency Electric Spark Machine from China for the last two years for sale in the local market. On May 17, he declared the imported machine to air cargo officials, but was asked by customs clearance agent Rajesh Rane to pay a bribe of Rs 20,000 to Jaisaval. Rane said the imported goods were welding machines and a certificate was required for its import. After negotiating the amount of the bribe from Jaisaval, Rane reduced it to Rs 12,000.
Rane told the complainant that he paid the bribe on his behalf and his consignment was cleared.
The complainant approached the CBI and on Tuesday the agency laid a trap. They arrest Rane who reveals Jaisaval’s role.
Rane told the CBI that he handed over the money to a person named Rashesh Joshi to forward Jaisaval. Joshi also agreed to accept the money and then sent Rs 5,000 to Suraj Kadam on Jaiswal’s instructions.
