IUML leaders (from right) Syed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal, PK Kunhalikutty and ET Mohd Basheer had also held a meeting on June 28 regarding the UCC.

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the main ally of the Congress in Kerala, has flatly refused to participate in the seminar on UCC.

The organization says that no one can move forward on this issue by sidelining the oldest party.

The league claimed that going to the seminar without the Congress would also affect the political future of Kerala.

In fact, the ruling CPI-M has organized a seminar on UCC on 15th July. But Congress was not invited, due to which IUML has also announced a boycott.

Muslim League’s Boycott Blows CPI-M
After the IUML meeting in Panakkad on Sunday, party state head Syed Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal said he had declined the CPI(M)’s invitation. Every party has the freedom to hold seminars or programs on this issue. Similarly, every party or religious organization has the freedom to participate or not to participate in it.

The decision is being considered as a setback for the ruling front. Because both Govindan and Education Minister V Sivankutty expected the Muslim League to participate in seminars to be held in the state to raise awareness on UCC.

Govindan, however, says that the Congress cannot be invited to the seminars as the grand old party does not have a clear stand on the UCC. His approach is also different for every state.

League claims- We are allies of UDF, Congress only strengthens the opposition

The Muslim League has claimed that it is a major ally of the UDF by attending the seminar. Since the CPI(M) has not invited any member of the UDF to its seminar, it will also not participate. Congress is the only party which can stand firmly against the Uniform Civil Code at the national level.

He said- That’s why no one can move forward against UCC bypassing Congress. Participation in the seminar without Congress will also adversely affect the political future of Kerala.

Jamiatul Ulama will be involved
Meanwhile, the All Kerala Jamiatul Ulama, an organization of Sunni Muslim scholars and clerics, said it would cooperate with the CPI(M) and participate in its seminars after the IUML turned down the Left party’s invitation.
