New Delhi:

Opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha on Sunday made a final appeal to all political parties to vote for him in tomorrow’s election, which pits him against NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.

Yashwant Sinha reiterated in his statement that the presidential election is not about two candidates, but it is a battle between two ideologies.

Mr Sinha said he stood for the defense of India’s democracy, while Draupadi Murmu “has the support of those who are attacking democracy every day.”

“I stand for the defense of secularism, which is a preamble pillar of our Constitution. My rival candidate is from a party that has not hidden its resolve to destroy this pillar and establish majority supremacy,” the statement said. “

“I am in favor of encouraging the politics of consensus and cooperation. My rival candidate is supported by a party that practices the politics of conflict and confrontation,” he said.

In an apparent reference to the BJP, Mr Sinha said that if Ms Murmu is elected as the next President of India, she will be in control of those who aim to “turn democratic India into an imitator of communist China. “

“One Nation, One Party, One Supreme Leader. Shouldn’t it be stopped? Yes, it should be. Only you can stop it,” Mr. Sinha said in the statement.

On Saturday, he shared a video on Twitter and appealed to all MLAs and MPs to vote according to their conscience.

“I appeal to you to exercise your vote in the context of the Constitution at your discretion. The Constitution provides that the vote shall be secret but there shall be no party whip, which means you must determine who you vote for. want,” he said in the video.

Bureaucrat-turned-politician Yashwant Sinha held important portfolios such as the Minister of External Affairs and Finance in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

The presidential election will be held on Monday and the counting of votes will take place on Thursday.
