Navi Mumbai man cheated of Rs 45.69 lakh in share trading fraud | Thane News – Times of India

THANE: A 44-year-old man from Navi Mumbai fell victim to a group of cyber criminals who enticed him to invest in share trading, resulting in a loss of Rs 45.69 lakh, according to an official’s statement on Tuesday. The cyber police station has registered a first information report against five individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, including “cheating” (420) and “criminal breach of trust” (406), based on the victim’s complaint.
The complainant alleged that the accused reached out to him through various social media platforms, encouraging him to invest in share trading with promises of substantial returns, as per the official.
Between March 2 and April 14, the complainant invested a total of Rs 45.69 lakh. However, he claimed that he did not receive any returns and was unable to recover the invested sum, the official stated.
The police are currently working on identifying the accused by tracing the mobile numbers, WhatsApp groups, and telegram IDs used to communicate with the complainant, the official added.
