Navratri Special! Karishma Tanna: I like playing dandiya, but I enjoy garba more | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Dressed in a traditional outfit, Karishma Tanna Bangera stepped out for an exclusive Navratri shoot with Bombay Times. The Scoop actress twirled and showed us some of her garba moves. She recounts that it was only during her teenage days that she played garba and dandiya with her friends and hasn’t been able to do that in the past few years. “Navratri has been very special for me, especially in my school and college days, and also at home as we were a joint family. I would take the dress code for all nine days of the festival very seriously and ask my mom to buy me different chaniya-cholis for each day. I made sure that I never repeated my outfit,” says Karishma.
The other thing she did with a lot of zest was participate in garba competitions. “I used to take these competitions very seriously. I loved winning them. I used to go all out every time I saw the judges. I believed that I am the best dancer and I have to win. From my school or college campus to a friend’s building’s pandal, I would go to various places to flaunt my dancing skills,” she remembers.
‘My husband Varun is more Gujarati than I am’
Karishma says her husband Varun Bangera, who is South Indian, also participates in the festivities with equal gusto. She shares, “I feel Varun is more Gujarati than I am (laughs). Earlier, he lived in a building in Andheri East with many Gujarati residents. So, he understands and speaks Gujarati very well and also loves Gujju food. It’s just that he is a little shy, so heading out to play garba with him is a far-fetched dream.”
‘I would win Garba competitions’
Ask her where she learnt all the traditional dance moves, and the Sanju actress says, “Arre, I am Gujarati, aur yeh mere khoon mein hai. I enjoy playing dandiya, but I am more of a garba person and have won garba competitions.”
