NEET and 2023: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the minimum age requirement for NEET-UG, or National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-graduate candidates.

According to the “Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023” or GMER-23, which was announced by the apex medical education regulator on June 2, a candidate not to appear in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test- Undergraduate, or NEET -UG, unless he has attained the age of 17 years on or before 31st January of the year of admission to UG medical courses. Earlier, at the time of completing at least 17 years as on 31st December of the year of admission served as a boundary.

As per the Graduate Medical Education Regulation 2023, GMER 2023, for admission to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses, 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Biology, Chemistry, or Biotechnology and English subjects to appear in NEET ) must have passed. -UG. These rules were posted on the official website of NMC (nmc.org.in) after being published in the Gazette of India on June 2.

NEET UG 2023: Counseling process

Additionally, all medical institutions will use a common counseling process based on the NEET-UG merit list for admission to undergraduate medical programs as per the new norms. The designated authority has to submit the final list of students to the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) within a week of its completion. UGMEB will issue instructions for conducting the counselling. Within a week of the last day of enrollment in the course, each medical institution must also provide the UGMEB with the final list of admitted students.

As per another clause of the rule, “The UGMEB is responsible for posting the model curriculum and outcome objectives on the NMC website. Along with the NMC curriculum, additional elective credit courses of short duration shall be available. A UG medical student must complete a Rotating Medical Internship as per the Mandatory Rotating Medical Internship Regulations (CRMI), 2021 to be recognized as a graduate.
