Vijay Varma, Wamiqa Gabbi win big at News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024.
Wamiqa Gabbi had a rather eventful 2023 with three projects. Vijay Varma grabbed attention for Lust Stories 2, Jaane Jaan, Dahaad and Kaalkoot.
The News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024 took place on March 9 (Saturday). The OTT Star of the Year (female) was conferred to Wamiqa Gabbi. Vijay Varma, on the other hand, took the OTT Star of the Year (male) trophy home.
Wamiqa had a rather eventful 2023 with three projects – Vikramaditya Motwane’s Jubilee and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya and Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley. She received wide acclaim for her portrayals of an aspiring actor, a housewife and mother who goes to dangerous lengths to protect her son and a detective who defies convention by breaking the fourth wall. Despite her short stint so far, she has emerged as a force to reckon with who has proved her mettle as a versatile actor.
Vijay had four releases in the past year including Lust Stories 2, Jaane Jaan, Dahaad, and Kaalkoot. His chemistry with Tamannaah Bhatia in Sujoy Ghosh’s Sex With The Ex in the Netflix anthology film was much talked about. But it was his nuanced performances in Dahaad and Kaalkoot that grabbed everyone’s attention. While Dahaad saw him playing a sinister serial killer, Kaalkoot finally helped him break out from his image as an antagonist. Jaane Jaan, a murder mystery, had him essay the part of a suave cop.
After a successful edition in 2023 that celebrated the finest achievements in Indian cinema and recognised outstanding talents within the OTT sector, the News18 Showsha Reel Awards soared to greater heights this year. The awards honoured and applauded the best of content across cinema and OTT. In a world where narratives unfold across various screens, it was a moment to recognise the brilliance that captivates, entertains, and leaves a lasting impact. Several big celebrities including Karan Johar, Kartik Aaryan, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee and Shankar Mahadevan among others also attended the News18 Showsha Reel Awards 2024.
