Hubli: Like any other place, enrollment in government schools has increased in Hubli after the COVID-19 pandemic. Many parents of such students are still struggling to make a living and are finding it difficult to buy notebooks for their children.
seeing the situation, Rajat Ulagadimath The Foundation has started the ‘Vidyarthi Mitra’ program to help government school students and their parents.
Suvarna Kallakuntala, Shahazman Mujahid And Sandil KumarFoundation officials told TOI that many urban households in Hubli faced severe financial crunch during and after the pandemic. “We noticed that some poor parents are struggling to get study material for their children. We know the reality that we cannot provide everything for such students and parents. However, we decided to introduce at least a few notebooks to ease their burden.
Prakash Kuratti and Laxman Gaddi said that they first consulted the teachers of government schools and collected the data of the students.
“Teachers said that each student needs at least six notebooks. We also visited some private schools which are collecting very nominal fees and where students from poor families are studying. As of now, we have details of 10,000 students who need books and we will give them 60,000 notebooks.
Foundation’s founder Rajat Ulagadimath said that many of his friends have voluntarily funded the initiative. “Till now, we have raised Rs 9.7 lakh. The initiative was inaugurated by Srisailam Jagadguru Channasiddharam Panditaradhya Shivacharya Mahaswamiji. Srisailam on June 6th, and it will continue for another week. So far, we have reached 12 government schools and we will reach 20 more schools next week.”
Nagraj Katigar, whose son is studying in a government school in Ashok Nagar, said the ‘Vidyarthi Mitra’ initiative is helpful for the lower middle class and poor families. “I was thinking of buying some low quality notebooks for my son at an affordable price. However, this program has provided good quality notebooks for us.”
