NKDA will operate 12 fast EV charging stations in New Town. Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: The New City Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) will set up and operate 12 fast electric vehicle charging stations across the township. Charging at these stations will be cheaper than at privately operated stations.
“NKDA will start the work of setting up EV charging stations at 12 locations in New Town. Charging at these stations will be affordable for motorists and will have high speed chargers at these stations. The agency to build the station has been selected. This is a part of developing EV infrastructure in New Town,” said Debashish Sen, president, NKDA.
Currently, most privately operated EV charging stations sell electricity at Rs 17 or Rs 18 per unit. “The NKDA will sell power at Rs 12 or Rs 13 per unit,” said an official.
The 12 locations where the EV charging stations will come up are the areas near Mira Service Station, Next to Axis Mall on MAR- 1111, Near Prof. Cone Park Behind City Center II, Near Spencers Mall, Sukhobristhi, Near Eco Park Gate No. 4, Near New Town School in DB Block, Near Akanksha Mor at 6th Crossing, Near Chittaranjan National Cancer Hospital in DJ Block, biswa bangla Gate in CC Block, Near Rosedale and Uniworld City Housing Complex, Near the fair Ground on Smart Street and within the parking lot of Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
There are about 30 EV charging stations in New Town, including those operated by the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO).
NKDA will also reserve space for electric car parking and charging units at the multi-level parking lot that the authorities are building in New Town. Like NKDA, HIDCO is also developing infrastructure for electric buses in New Town. The state government is already coming up with an electric vehicle policy, HIDCO is working on a plan to develop a center of excellence to promote the use of electric vehicles in the township. An official said that the center will also help in converting conventional vehicles to electric vehicles.
