No Action Yet Against Wardha Docs Found Drunk On Duty Last Wk | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Two doctors, Dr Pravesh Dhamane and Dr Maniklal Raut, are yet to face any punitive action, as the departmental inquiry remains pending against them, for having allegedly reported in drunk condition for duty at Pulgaon rural hospital in Wardha last week. Wardha is a dry district where liquor is banned by law.
Despite a police report and a preliminary inquiry summary already sent to the public health department, it’s learnt no action has been initiated against the two.The incident had attracted statewide attention due to the indiscipline of the two govt doctors, but surprisingly they have been spared.
Last week, Dr Dhamane and Dr Raut were sent to the rural hospital by Wardha civil surgeon Dr Sachin Tadas as a stop-gap arrangement because the regular doctors deployed at the rural hospital were absent. Patients had been waiting as no doctors were available to treat them. A child’s family had contacted social worker Ankush Koche for help, who had alerted the Civil Surgeon, who had asked Dr Dhamane and Dr Raut to visit the rural hospital.
Deputy director of health services Dr Kanchan Wanere said the head office of the department in Mumbai will decide on the future of the doctors. Assistant director of health services Dr Pramod Gavai said he has already submitted his preliminary report based on the initial findings and his visit to the hospital for inquiry.
Probationary IPS officer Rahul Chavan, serving as SDPO Pulgaon, said his department too has sent their reports to health services. The two doctors face an FIR lodged at Pulgaon police station under various sections of the Maharashtra prohibition Act.
A liquor bottle was recovered from the car in which the two doctors had reached the Pulgaon rural hospital.
