The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha election 2024 promising to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and stop the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) across the country if the opposition’s INDIA bloc comes to power at the Centre.

The manifesto is titled ‘Didir Shopoth (Didi’s pledges). With it, the TMC pledged to “uplift every Indian with guaranteed employment, universal housing, free LPG cylinders, assured MSP for farmers, scholarships for SC, ST, OBC students and much more”.

Releasing the manifesto at the party headquarters in Kolkata, TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien said, “these are the promises which we will fulfil as part of the INDIA bloc when it forms the next government.”

“We promise to control petrol and diesel prices through the formulation of a price stabilisation fund. We also promise to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and stop the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise in the country,” senior TMC leader Amit Mitra said.

Top 10 Promises In TMC’s Manifesto Apart From Repealing CAA & UCC

  1. TMC promised to provide ration at doorstep and 10 free cooking cylinders for BPL families.
  2. The party also vowed to increase the income for labourers. It promised to give all job card holders 100 days of guaranteed work. For this, workers’ minimum wage would be Rs 400 per day.
  3. The party said that as per the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, MSP will be legally guaranteed for India’s farmers, set at a minimum of 50 per cent higher than the average cost of production of all crops.
  4. All graduates and diploma holders up to 25 years will be provided one-year apprenticeships with a monthly stipend, the party said.
  5. TMC also vowed to cap the cost of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders to ensure affordability
  6. Party said it will provide student credit cards of up to Rs 10 Lakh for higher education. It also promised to triple the number of higher education scholarships for SCs, STs and OBCs students.
  7. TMC promised to increase the current Old Age Pension for individuals aged 60 and above to Rs 1,000 per month.
  8. The party also promised to establish a ‘Price Stabilisation Fund’ to manage fluctuations in prices. It vowed to give 5 kg of free ration per month to every ration card holder.
  9. Ensuring safe and secure homes for everyone, TMC also promised assured dignified housing to every poor family across the country.
  10. Further, TMC promised scholarships for female students in line with Kanyashree and financial aid for all women akin to Lakshmir Bhandar. It also promised health insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh in line with Swasthya Sathi.

The TMC walked out of the INDIA bloc in January over disagreements regarding seat-sharing with the Congress in Bengal.

However, the Mamata Banerjee-led party had said it continues to be part of the INDIA bloc at the national level.
