Nothing in the NFT frenzy in the build-up to the launch of its first smartphone

UK-based consumer electronics brand Nothing has announced a non-fungible token (NFT) project called Nothing Community Dots in collaboration with Polygon Networks, ahead of the launch of its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone 1. Used by buyers to gain early access to new products, events and exclusive gifts.

Nothing said that its first NFT token, Black Dots, would be broadcast to investors in the Nothing community on July 7. Ten Black Dot token holders from the Nothing community will be allowed to win a special invitation to attend the Nothing smartphone launch event in London on July 12. For customers who have pre-ordered the Phone 1, the NFT airdrop will start from July 12.

“With Nothing Community Dots, we are using Web3 technologies to build more meaningful relationships with our community. By partnering with Polygon, we are providing an accessible, and importantly, a more sustainable Web 3 experience,” Pei said in an emailed statement.

Polygon is a sidechain or layer two network that runs with the Ethereum blockchain enabling faster transactions and lower gas fees. Polygon is considered the most trusted blockchain network for NFT projects as it allows high frequency and low value transactions.

Although Polygon has been used by companies in fashion, sportswear and automotive to launch NFTs, this is the first time an electronics brand will use the network to drop their NFT collections.

Sandeep Nelwal, Co-Founder, Polygon, said, “It is exciting to see an innovator like Nothing embracing Web3 from the very beginning, making direct access to Web3 possible.

Polygon also claims to have achieved carbon-neutral status and plans to go carbon negative by the end of this year.

Nothing was founded in October 2020 by Carl Pei, who co-founded the OnePlus brand and was its global director until leaving to start his own brand in October. It is a privately held company and is backed by GV (formerly Google Ventures), EQT Ventures, C Ventures and other private investors.
