NPP, UDP fooled everyone in Meghalaya in last five years: Abhishek Banerjee

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday said the ruling National People’s Party in Meghalaya and its ally United Democratic Party have fooled everyone in the state in the last five years.

Addressing an election rally at Myleem on the outskirts of Shillong, Banerjee urged people to vote for the Trinamool Congress in the February 27 assembly elections as they would help the north eastern state reach greater heights and Will ensure that it is not deprived of its due rights.

“They (NPP and UDP) have been there for five years and they have fooled all of you. This 27th (February) you must fool them. Pay them in your own coin,” he said.

TMC is the main opposition this time and is contesting on 58 of the total 60 assembly seats in Meghalaya.

“Every vote for the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) is a vote for the BJP. Every vote for the United Democratic Party (UDP) is a vote for the BJP. Keep this in mind.

The UDP is a major constituent of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), which is in power in the northeastern state with the support of the BJP.

The TMC leader said this time it was important for everyone to come out and vote as it would “end” the misrule of corrupt political parties.

“When you vote for TMC, you will vote to take Meghalaya to greater heights and that it is not deprived of its due. You should vote for the puppets. Vote for a true leader who will speak and work for you.

Banerjee highlighted the Mukroh firing in Meghalaya in November last year and said the Conrad Sangma government had done nothing for the victims.

“The Assam Police, who are perpetrators of the crime, are roaming free. Meghalaya government has not issued notice to them. If such violence had taken place in the interstate borders of West Bengal, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Would have given the criminals a taste of their own medicine,” he said.

Five tribal villagers from Meghalaya were shot dead by the Assam police in Mukroh on November 22, 2022 after Assam forest guards stopped a vehicle from Meghalaya which they suspected of carrying timber illegally . A forest guard from Assam was also killed in this incident.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later claimed that the police firing in Mukroh was done in self-defense and to protect government property. The senior TMC leader, at his election rally in Tura on February 16, alleged that Sangma, fearing action by central agencies on one pretext or the other, did not take the required action to ensure justice for those killed in the incident.

He also criticized Sangma for failing to include the Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

“Have you seen the CM going and raising his voice for the inclusion of the two languages? … When Trinamool Congress forms government in Meghalaya we will do whatever we can, we will fight till our last blood to include Khasi and Garo languages,” Banerjee said.

Highlighting the 10 “promises” in TMC’s manifesto, Banerjee said the promises of other political parties are just promises. If our government comes to power, it should be implemented within three months.

Assuring action within the first month if the TMC comes to power, Banerjee said unemployed youth and women, who have registered with the party’s Meghalaya Youth Empowerment (MYE) and Women Empowerment (WE) cards for financial inclusion , their dues will be deposited directly into their bank. Accounts.

The party had launched its MYE cards in Meghalaya in January 2023 and WE cards in December last year.

He said that TMC believes in communal harmony. “TMC stands for temple, mosque and church and also for the trust, Mukul (Sangma) and Charles (Pingrope). Voters in Meghalaya should vote for TMC to defeat NPP, UDP and NPP.

Mukul Sangma is the face of the party in Meghalaya and Pingrope is its president.
