National drug pricing regulator NPPA on Friday said it has fixed the retail prices of 23 formulations, including drugs for the treatment of diabetes and hypertension. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the prices under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 based on the decision of the 113th Authority meeting on May 26, 2023.
As per the notification, NPPA has fixed the price of diabetes medicine Gliclazide ER and Metformin Hydrochloride tablet at Rs 10.03 per tablet.
Similarly, the retail price of one tablet of Telmisartan, Chlorthalidone and Cilnidipine tablet is Rs 13.17. The retail price of one tablet of pain reliever Trypsin, Bromelain, Rutoside Trihydrate and Diclofenac Sodium tablet has been fixed at Rs 20.51.
The NPPA said that it has also revised the ceiling price of 15 scheduled formulations under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 (NLEM 2022).
It has also fixed the ceiling price of the two scheduled formulations.
In addition, it has fixed and revised the ceiling price of a scheduled formulation, the notification said.
The NPPA is mandated to fix/revise the prices of controlled bulk drugs and formulations and to enforce the prices and availability of drugs in the country. It also monitors the prices of controlled drugs to keep them at a reasonable level.
The regulator administers and enforces the provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order.
It is also entrusted with the task of recovering the amount overcharged by the manufacturers for controlled drugs from the consumers.
