New Delhi: National Testing Agency ,NTAhas identified at least 10 unfair means cases involving smuggling of electronic devices test hall by Candidate during National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) was held on 17th July. There were other instances where candidates were found with electronic devices during a search and were allowed to take the exam only after confiscating the gadgets and giving an undertaking.
NTA sources said that there have also been some cases of attempted impersonation, where the candidates left the centers on being questioned. As first reported by TOI in June 2019, the security of question papers is another issue that NTA is ensuring with the use of remote locking system, where through remote control from centralized to just 15 minutes before the exam Boxes are opened at designated centres. As per internal reports coming from various centers accessed by TOI, out of the 10 cases verified so far, one candidate was caught using mobile phone inside the hall at 5 pm (exam ends at 5:20 pm). Hui). A senior NTA official said, “The candidate’s cell phone has been confiscated.”
In another case, a microchip was found from a candidate, which was confiscated.
“In one case, there was a beep indicating the presence of metal in the scanner during the search. The female candidate suddenly said that she is not feeling well and needs to use the wash room. When she returned and was searched, the scanner cleared her. Later, we found a mobile phone in the wash room,” said the officer.
The NTA sees all this as a systemic attack to crack the high stakes exam. An expert said: “There is no easy way out as there have been instances of use of such tools. Organized groups are working to endanger the exam by breaking the safety net to provide unfair advantage to some unscrupulous candidates.” ”
