Nuh Si Seeks 5,000 Bribe For Police Bail, Lands In Acb Net | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: Anti-Corruption Bureau’s (ACB) city unit on Saturday evening arrested a sub-inspector (SI) of Nuh city police station for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant to release him on bail in an Excise Act case.
According to an ACB spokesperson, a complaint was lodged against Surjeet Singh by a man against whom a case had been registered at the Nuh City police station in January under the Punjab Excise (Haryana Amendment) Act, 2020.
“The complainant told ACB that SI Surjeet Singh demanded a Rs 7,000 bribe to facilitate police bail in a case registered against him,” the spokesperson said. Acting on the complaint, the ACB team conducted an investigation and found prima facie evidence to support the allegations.
A trap was laid to nab the accused on Saturday evening at the Nuh City police station and the accused was arrested while accepting Rs 5,000 as a bribe at his office.
The bribe amount was seized from the accused and the entire procedure was videographed, said an ACB official. Though Singh initially demanded Rs 7,000, he later agreed to accept Rs 5,000 as a bribe upon the request of the complainant.
The bureau has registered a case against the accused at the ACB police station in Gurgaon under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. This arrest marks the third such incident involving police personnel in the city ACB range in 2024.
Earlier, inspector Anil Kumar of the crime branch in Rewari was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 3.75 lakh on Feb 2.
