Nvidia, MediaTek partner on advanced vehicle infotainment systems

Nvidia Corp and MediaTek Inc will partner on technology to power advanced vehicle infotainment systems that can stream video or games or interact with drivers through artificial intelligence, the companies said on Monday.

Under the agreement, MediaTek will integrate Nvidia graphics processing unit chiplets and Nvidia software into system-on-chips it provides for infotainment displays to automakers, Reuters reported, citing the companies’ announcement at the Computex technology trade show in Taipei. .

The companies said the feature would be compatible with automated driving systems based on Nvidia technology. Dashboard displays will show the environment around the vehicle, while cameras can monitor the driver.

“Nvidia is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, delivering next-generation computing and computing solutions,” said Rick Tsai, CEO of MediaTek. Designs intelligent, always-connected vehicles.

“AI and accelerated computing are driving the transformation of the entire auto industry,” said Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of Nvidia.

“The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading system-on-chip plus Nvidia’s GPU and AI software technologies will enable new user experiences, enhanced security and new connected services for all vehicle segments from luxury to entry-level,” Huang said. “

“The quality, strength and position of our two companies can give automotive industry partners to build their own companies,” Huang said, adding that the partnership will provide chips that can power “every single segment of the car.” .

Automakers are adding artificial intelligence (AI) generative features such as voice-activated features, driver monitoring systems and displays related to automated driving, making in-vehicle displays and entertainment systems more complex.

MediaTek’s main rival Qualcomm in the smartphone market is also courting automakers. Earlier this year, Qualcomm and Salesforce announced a partnership to develop a new connected vehicle platform.

A partnership with MediaTek will reportedly allow Nvidia broader access to the $12 billion market for infotainment systems-on-chips, the companies announced.

Tsai said the first product is expected to be released in late 2025
