OBC reservation in UP urban local body elections: Hearing on High Court posts on Friday

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court deferred till Friday the hearing on the issue of OBC reservation for urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh.

A bench of Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Saurabh Lavania extended the stay on issuance of the notification till the disposal of the matter.

Due to paucity of time, the hearing was adjourned on Friday.

The Lucknow Bench of the High Court is hearing the petitions challenging the OBC reservation prepared by the government on the basis of rapid survey.

The petitioners argue that in compliance with the apex court’s order, the state government should follow the triple test formula of constituting a dedicated commission to study the political backwardness of OBCs in the state and then decide the reservation. While the state government argued that it conducted a rapid survey which is as good as the triple test formula suggested by the Supreme Court.

It may be noted that Friday is the last working day of this year as winter vacation will start from Saturday.
