Odisha Man Trampled To Death By Jumbo In East S’bhum | Ranchi News – Times of India

Jamshedpur: A septuagenarian man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Mutkamkocha village under Jamshedpur forest division in Gurabanda police station limits in East Singhbhum district on Tuesday night, a forest official said. Forest ranger Digvijay Singh said Dhirai Murmu (65) was a resident of Jotiasol village under the Jharpokharia police station in Odisha.He had come to visit his relatives on Holi.
Dhirai was going to answer nature’s call when he crossed paths with the elephant. He tried to escape but fell down. Area residents reached the spot upon hearing Dhirai’s screams and chased away the elephant. The ambulance, which was reportedly called by the locals to transport the injured Dhirai to the hospital, couldn’t reach the place due to the dilapidated condition of the road. The villager succumbed to the injuries by the time he was taken to the Sadar Hospital, Ghatshila. The family of the deceased were handed over Rs 25,000 for conducting the last rites of the deceased. The compensation amount would be given to the next of the kin.
