Kalaburagi South MLA Allamprabhu Patil directed the authorities concerned to take necessary measures to deal with the problems faced by the city during the rainy season.

Presiding over a meeting of municipal officials and corporators here on Friday, Mr. Patil said that water-logging on city roads after one or two heavy rains during monsoon is a common sight. Therefore, he directed the officials to ensure good drainage system to curb the problem.

He also said that the Municipal Corporation should improve the door-to-door garbage collection system and maintain the time. There should be proper check on dumping of waste in sewage and ban on use of plastic bags. Polythene bags are the main reason for sewerage system choke.

The councilors said private companies were digging up roads for laying cables and damaging drinking water pipelines, causing inconvenience to residents.

Shri Patil took feedback from the corporators to ascertain the status of works including bottlenecks and pending works in their wards. He directed to visit his wards regularly to solve the problems of the people.

He urged the officials to take decisive action against the agencies for missing the deadline. Both officials and agencies will be held accountable for their commitments.

Corporation commissioner Bhuvnesh Patil said that the corporation will prepare ward-wise micro plans for road, underground drainage and street light works and will also prepare estimates for these works.

The MLA then directed the officials to fill lakes on the outskirts of the city with rainwater and recharge groundwater to find a permanent solution to water scarcity in the city.
