The old picture, seemingly displayed on a shelf in the couple’s residence, captures a young Alia leaning her head on Ranbir’s shoulder. In the photo, the actress is all smiles for the picture, while Ranbir seems to be lost in thought.
While some fans were quick to label the snapshot as ‘cute,’ and called their marriage ‘destiny’, there were others who expressed ‘discomfort’, deeming the image ‘creepy’ and ‘unsettling.’Online comments ranged from shock to outright condemnation as fans of the couple began ‘romanticising’ the actress’ childhood photo. One user expressed, “This makes me so uncomfortable. Obviously, at their current ages, it’s not an issue, but to romanticize a child and an adult’s meeting is so creepy.”
Another echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Their current pics are very cute, but that throwback pic is just off-putting.”
Further fueling the debate, another commenter remarked, “Ok, I get that they’re going for the ‘it was always meant to be’ narrative, but this is highly creepy and weird.”
In an attempt to contextualize the situation, some netizens drew parallels with other celebrity couples, specifically mentioning Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. “This is like Saif framing the picture of him tapping a kid Kareena on the head when she congratulated him on his wedding with Amrita,” one comment read. The netizen was reffering to an old photo of a teen-age Kareena posing with Saif and Amrita at their wedding.
It must be noted that there is no indication that the said black and white photo of Ranbir and Alia is indeed from their childhood, or if it is one of their many unseen photos from their personal album. Prior to their wedding, Alia made no secret about harbouring a crush on Ranbir since she was a young girl. The two finally began dating while shooting for Brahmastra. After a 5-year romance, the two wed in 2022 and welcomed daughter Raha Kapoor later that same year.
On the work front, Ranbir and Alia will be seen sharing screen space in Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s ‘Love and War’ that also stars Vicky Kaushal.
