Police officers in Vermont, US, were shocked after a simple arrest that resulted in the suspect’s father attacking them with a construction-grade excavator.
Taking to Facebook, Vermont State Police reported that two soldiers arrived in Hardwick to arrest a suspect in connection with an assault and burglary at a home. However, “the parents of the suspect attempted to obstruct the arrest, and eventually the father of the suspect attempted to attack the soldiers using an excavator,” the officials said, sharing the dashcam footage of the incident.

In the clip, the father of the suspect is seen rolling the bucket of the excavator on the jawans. The suspect’s mother also blames the officers and apprehends her son. She tries to stop the soldiers from arresting her.
One of the officers pointed a gun at the father, but did not fire. Seconds in the clip, soldiers are seen wrestling with the suspect while trying to avoid swinging machinery.

The video has gone viral since it was shared. It has been viewed over 564,000 times and garnered thousands of comments. One user wrote, ‘Wow. Those officers showed unbelievable restraint!!” Another said, “The soldiers showed amazing restraint.. this could easily have been a fair shoot.” A third user said, “Incredible I’m glad everything went well! Hats off to the officers and thank you for everything you do!!!!
Fortunately, the soldiers were not harmed and were able to arrest all the parties involved without any injuries, the state police said. The constables arrested the accused on charges of grievous assault, burglary, unlawful mischief and resisting arrest.

The father was also arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a guarded officer, resisting arrest, and imminent and reckless endangerment. The mother was released citing imminent imminence of an officer.
