One person was killed and nine others were injured in a shooting that took place on Saturday night (local time) in Mobile City in the US state of Alabama. Citing a WPMI report, CNN said the incident took place not far from where people had gathered for the city’s New Year celebrations.
Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine said police were notified of a shooting in the 200 block of Dauphin Street at 11:15 p.m. (local time), CNN reported citing WPMI. According to Prine, officers arrived at the scene and found one person dead and several others injured.
Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine said the injured victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment, according to news reports. However, there was no information available on the extent of his injuries. So far, no arrests have been made and it is not known what prompted the shooting in the Mobile area of Alabama.
Meanwhile, three officers of the New York Police Department were killed by a knife-wielding man in an unprovoked attack near Times Square on Saturday (local time), CNN reported citing the NYPD commissioner. The condition of all the three police officers is stable.
The incident happened outside the Times Square New Year’s Eve security screening zone at West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue at 10 p.m. Saturday (local time), CNN quoted Commissioner Keith Sewell as saying.
According to Keechant Sewell, the officer, who recently graduated from the police academy, suffered a skull fracture and a large wound on his head. The commissioner said that another officer of 8 years was hurt.
According to CNN, the commissioner further said that the suspect, identified as a 19-year-old man, approached an officer and tried to strike him over the head with a machete. The suspect then struck two more officers before one fired his service weapon, striking the suspect in the shoulder. Sewell said the suspect is receiving treatment.
