A 28-year-old migrant worker hired for repair work at a house in Selaiyur died on Wednesday when a portion of its concrete ceiling collapsed. Another person was injured in the accident.
Police have identified the victim as Beskar from Uttar Pradesh, and the injured as Omkar, 30. He hired a contractor to lift the house using hydraulic machines. The repair work is going on for a month.
When construction workers were helping with the lifting, a portion of the roof collapsed and fell to its side. Beskar and Omkar, who were working there, got buried under the debris.
On being informed, the Selaiyur police along with Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel reached the spot. The personnel pulled out the trapped people after clearing the debris. However, the crew of 108 ambulance declared that Beskar died on the spot and Mr Onkar was taken to a hospital for treatment.
