Opposition to the decision to limit the seats of B.Com. Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara: MS University’s Faculty of Commerce’s decision to cap the number of students in the first year Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) course has turned into a major controversy. The largest Faculty of the University in terms of student strength, the Faculty of Commerce accounts for almost half of the total students admitted to the University.
While the syndicate members have also started protesting against the decision of the faculty, a students’ organization also burnt the effigy of the dean of the faculty on Friday. Following the protest, police at Sayajiganj police station detained seven student leaders belonging to the All Gujarat Students’ Union (AGSU).
AGSU’s Pankaj Jaiswal said, “We have decided to continue and intensify our agitation till we get an assurance that all local students of Vadodara applying for commerce courses will be admitted by the faculty.” ”

Student leaders said that MSU was established as a residential university so that students of Vadodara could fulfill their dreams of pursuing higher education.
Earlier, Syndicate and Senate member Hasmukh Vaghela had also written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of MSU condemning the decision to limit student strength in the first year.
“Every year, around 7,000 students get admission in B.Com first year. The decision taken by the university will deny admission to more than 3,000 students,” said Vaghela, adding that private colleges and institutions will benefit from the university’s decision.
