The Calcutta High Court had ordered the deployment of the Central Force on 15 June.

Panchayat elections are to be held in West Bengal on 8 July. Before that violence was taking place in many places in the state. To stop this, the Calcutta High Court had ordered the deployment of the Central Force on 15 June.

But the Bengal government and the State Election Commission opposed the decision and filed a petition in the Supreme Court. SC agreed to hear this petition on Monday. The court will hear it on June 20 i.e. Tuesday.

Shambhudas, a relative of BJP candidate Vishakha Das Kismat, was murdered in Sahebganj of Cooch Behar on Sunday regarding Panchayat elections. BJP has blamed TMC for this murder.

Union Minister of State for Home Nishith Pramanik’s convoy was also attacked in Sahebganj on June 17. Pramanik was going to the block office located at Sahebganj. The work of scrutiny of the candidates was going on here.

Earlier, the case of murder of TMC leader came to light in Kaliachak of Malda district. Mustafa Sheikh was beaten to death. TMC had accused BJP supporters of Sheikh’s murder.

Calcutta HC asks to deploy central force, TMC files petition
The BJP and the Congress had filed two petitions regarding the violence in Bengal. On June 15, a bench of Chief Justice Shivaganaman and Justice Uday Kumar had directed the deployment of central forces in sensitive districts for panchayat elections.

On this, the Election Commission had said that it will take some time to identify the sensitive places. The court said on this that taking more time would only cause harm. The Election Commission and the Government of Bengal challenged the decision in the Supreme Court.

Violent clashes started on June 13 during the nomination for the panchayat elections. Then the supporters of Indian Secular Front (ISF) and Trinamool Congress came face to face. Navsad Siddiqui, ISF MLA from Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district, said that when our party workers went to file nominations, they were beaten up by TMC goons. If this situation continues, fair panchayat elections will not be held. People will not come out of the house due to fear.

On June 14, two factions of the ruling TMC clashed during the nomination of candidates at Canin in South 24 Parganas district. Both the groups attacked each other with bombs.

The STF on June 16 arrested a person in West Bengal’s Birbhum district for possession of arms and ammunition. Three semi-automatic pistols and a pipe gun along with 71 rounds of live cartridges and five magazines were recovered from the accused.

Election on 8th July, results will come on 11th July

Panchayat elections will be held in West Bengal on a single day on July 8. Counting will take place on July 11. Nominations were filed from June 9, which ended on June 15.
