Pakistan government plans to declare Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party PTI as a ‘terrorist group’

by India Today World Desk: Pakistan government is planning Nominate Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI),The country’s interior minister Rana Sanaullah said the party, led by former prime minister Imran Khan, is a “terrorist group”.

In an interview to Sama TV, Rana Sanaullah stressed on the presence of sufficient evidence against PTI and said that the cabinet would consider designating the party a “terrorist group”.

He claimed that around 250 Afghan nationals were deputed to provide security to Imran Khan at his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore. Pakistan government has already given it an ultimatum Imran Khan will hand over the suspects are reportedly hiding at his residence.

Rana Sanaullah also claimed that Afghan civilians were “strategically positioned”, and evidence showed they could have carried out targeted attacks. He said he was directed towards the Corps Commander’s House and the Askari Tower.

The Home Minister said that many PTI members are being arrested on the basis of cases registered against them.

Police surrounded Imran Khan’s house

A large number of Punjab Police personnel surrounded the house of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in Lahore on Thursday and may launch a security operation any time on Friday to nab “terrorists”.

Acting Information Minister of Punjab on Wednesday Amir Mir claimed that some “30 to 40” terrorists were hiding at Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence and gave him an ultimatum of 24 hours to hand them over or face stern action.

The minister said on Thursday that after the deadline expires, police may raid Zaman Park to arrest terrorists, including Imran Khan’s nephew Hasan Niazi, who is reportedly hiding there.

Imran claims he will be arrested

Meanwhile, Imran Khan questioned the government to send a police party with a search warrant and he would not object to it.

He has claimed that a decision has been taken to arrest him and he will be tried under the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act in connection with the attack on military installations. He would be jailed for 10 years on charges of treason, he said.

Violent protests followed the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case on 9 May. His party workers vandalized a dozen military installations, including Jinnah House (the home of the Lahore Corps Commander), Mianwali Airbase and the ISI building in Faisalabad.

The mob also attacked the Army Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi for the first time.
