Pakistan government’s Yoga Day post angry with its own citizens

People across the world celebrated International Yoga Day on 21 June. On this occasion, an attempt was made to make people aware of the importance of yoga. Along the same lines, the Pakistan government also shared a post on microblogging site Twitter, which angered many netizens in the country.

Taking to Twitter, the Government of Pakistan wrote that “The benefits of yoga provide both instant gratification and lasting change. In the world of fitness, both are extremely important. Yoga enhances your physical and mental health while preparing the mind and body for the long haul. Can quickly replace capacity – term health.”

Seeing this tweet, many Pakistani citizens started criticizing the government.

A netizen said, “Indians are following PM Modi? We remind you that you are the government of Pakistan, though an imported government.”

Another netizen asked his government to stop promoting ‘Indian culture’.

“I think this is the Indian style of meditation the government should not follow on this day. As Muslims, we have our own ways of meditating. Please delete this post. In public forum you can see Indian culture and Is promoting traditions or is it a paid promotion. Crap, completely absurd,” said a user by the name of Professor Imran Albus.

Another Twitter user Ayesha Rathore said, “Think for the poor too..if you get time from all this.”

History of International Yoga Day

The concept of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014. On 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly announced that it would be held on 21 June. It is celebrated as International Yoga Day or World Yoga Day.

International Yoga Day is being celebrated on 21 June across the world since 2015.
