Pakistan: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft entered Indian airspace after it failed to land at the Lahore airport due to bad weather.

According to an Indian aviation official, “The PIA aircraft continued to enter Indian airspace for about 11 minutes after failing to land at Lahore airport due to heavy rain.”

The incident was reported to the Delhi Flight Information Region (FIR) at around 08:10 pm on 4 May, when the PIA flight was returning from Muscat to Lahore.

“The pilot had to avoid CB clouds and gust of wind so he turned to East. Lahore airport is few miles from international borders. ATC Lahore handed over the aircraft to Delhi’s FIR and after taking permission from them It was refraining from using the eastern route.”The weather system is moving in full swing towards Multan,” a PIA spokesperson told ANI.

Aviation expert Capt Amit Singh told ANI, “It is not uncommon in commercial aviation. Sometimes Indian carriers do this after taking necessary clearance from air defense and ATC due to bad weather.”

The matter has been reported to the concerned authority in India. Since the matter is related to Pakistan, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided not to comment on it.
