Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court grants bail to former PM Imran Khan

Violence erupted across Pakistan on 9 May when cricketer-turned-politician Khan was arrested by the National Accountability Board (NAB) from the premises of the Islamabad High Court in a corruption case. Khan was released on bail two days later.

More than 20 military installations and government buildings, including the military headquarters in Rawalpindi, were damaged during the mayhem of 9 May, which has been called the “Black Day” in Pakistan’s history.

Over 100 vehicles of police and other security agencies were also set on fire during the violence, in which more than 10 people were killed.

However, Khan said that more than 25 PTI workers were killed in the violence and law enforcement agencies arrested more than 10,000 PTI workers across Pakistan. Of them, 4,000 are from Punjab.
