Panneerselvam seeks continuation of old process for benefit of pensioners

Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Sunday protested against a recent government order by the Finance Department, which reportedly modified the procedure for submission of ‘life certificate’ for pensioners. In a statement, he reportedly cited the mandate issued on May 31 this year, according to which pensioners were to submit their respective ‘life certificates’ during the month in which they retired. He argued that pensioners and family pensioners were living with their sons and daughters in other towns and cities, and some of them lived in other states and countries. They were of the view that the earlier process of making ‘Jeevan Pramaan’ every year between July and September was better, and a representation in this regard was conveyed by the pensioners’ associations, he said.
