Gurgaon: A 56-year-old man died after a speeding car hit him near Shikohpur Chowk when he was crossing NH-8 on Tuesday. The vehicle driver fled the spot after the accident. Passersby rushed the man to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival.
Birju Lal Gupta was from Chhattisgarh’s Durg district. He was on his way back home from his workplace in Shikohpur village when the incident happened.
His son, Ganpat Kumar, said in his police complaint, “Around 8.30 pm, my father was crossing the NH8 on foot to reach his rented accommodation in Mohammadpur in Sector 37 when an unidentified vehicle ran over him and fled the spot.”
Gupta was taken to a govt hospital in Sector 10, but he succumbed to serious injuries due to the impact. His body was shifted to the mortuary and his son reached on Tuesday to claim the body.
Based on his son’s complaint, a case was registered against unknown person under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) at Kherki Daula police station. Police have initiated an investigation to trace the offending vehicle and arrest the driver.
“An investigation has been launched to arrest the driver and trace the offending vehicle,” said an official.
