Mysuru: Deputy Lokayukta KN Phanindra, who made a surprise visit to KR Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital on Sunday, expressed his displeasure against the authorities regarding poor maintenance, lack of sanitation and under-utilization of resources. He visited the Stone Building, Emergency Ward and Children’s Block.
He strongly objected to the hospital authorities for not cleaning the piles of garbage, left over food, plastic water bottles and other garbage lying in the hospital premises.
He wanted the officials to maintain cleanliness not only inside the hospitals but also in the premises.
Seeing that patients are made to sleep on beds without bedsheets, he criticized the hospital staff for not providing bedsheets. Seeing the stinking toilet rooms, he instructed the hospital staff to maintain the hospital like temples to ensure better treatment and healthcare for the people.
Mahadev, one of the relatives of the patient, demanded the Deputy Lokayukta to direct the hospital authorities to ensure comfortable facilities for the relatives of the patients in the hospital. The Deputy Lokayukta also collected feedback from lactating mothers, pregnant women about the services provided to them in the hospitals.
Many patients complained about the hospital staff referring them from outside to buy expensive medicines, tablets.
Dean and Director of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) Dr KR Dakshinayini, Lokayukta Deputy Registrar Chennakesava Reddy, Additional Registrar Shivakumar, Lokayukta SP B Suresh BabuAdditional Deputy Commissioner Poem Rajaram and District Health Officer KH Prasad were present during the visit.
‘Will send report to the government’
Talking to reporters at the hospital, Phanindra said he would send a report to the state government recommending cleanliness, hygiene and other facilities for patients. He said he would press the government to release additional grants, ensure facilities to carry out repair work in age-old hospitals.
