Policeman injured in elephant attack

A civil police officer was injured in an elephant attack on Wednesday at Pothukal near Nilambur.

Sangeet, 30, working at Pothukal Forest Station on deputation from the Armed Reserve Camp in Kozhikode, was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode. He was later shifted to a private hospital.

Sangeet was part of a forest team that arrived at Kodalipoil in Pothukal to handle a wild elephant that terrorized the area on Wednesday morning.

When a herd of dogs provoked the elephant, the forest team was accused by the tusker, who used rubber bullets on the elephant. The music fell down while running for cover. The elephant hit him with its trunk. Colleagues saved him. The musical rib was broken in the incident.
