COIMBATORE: Second phase of training for the polling personnel for Coimbatore and Pollachi parliamentary constituencies was held here on Saturday. City corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran and additional collector Ashraf Ali oversaw the programme.
P Suresh, assistant returning officer, said the district collector had served show cause notices on the polling personnel who were absent in the first phase of the training programme.“They were warned of action if they failed to attend the upcoming training sessions. Hence, the absentees in the first phase of the training programme turned up for the session held today (Saturday) at a private college.”
Each polling booth would have a presiding officer and three polling officials. Polling stations with more than 1,200 voters would be provided with an extra polling official.
Suresh said the presiding and polling officials were explained the polling process through PowerPoint presentations, videos and hands-on training. A total of 1,600 polling personnel attended the training programme, which delved into how to set up a polling station, facilities to be checked and the roles and responsibilities of the personnel involved.
