Ponniyin Selvan 2 Box Office Collection Day 2: The film directed by Mani Ratnam has been widely distributed amid much excitement and anticipation. The second installment of the epic two-part historical saga is expected to do well at the box office even though the first film grossed over Rs 500 crore worldwide. On the first day, PS2 registered a huge company. In the second episode of the epic drama telling the story of the Chola dynasty, actors Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai BachchanTrisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, and Vikram Prabhu among others reprise their roles.

The film has been released in over 3200 screens and is said to have collected pre-sales of Rs 11 crore worldwide with ticket bookings open. The release of PS-2 has raised expectations for fans, and social media ratings reveal how much they are enjoying the film. The serial drama was dubbed a blockbuster by many, and some even compared it to SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2. Initial trade reports said that the film earned Rs 24 crore on its second day in India across all languages. Ponniyin Selvan – Part 2 had an overall Tamil occupancy of 59.47% as on Saturday, April 29, 2023.

The film is based on the title novel by novelist Kalki. The early years of the Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman, who later became the famous ruler Rajaraja I, are dramatized in the first half of the film. Several Tamil filmmakers have looked into making a film based on the novel “Ponniyin Selvan” since it was published in 1955. However, due to paucity of funds, it was never realised. Even Mani Ratnam tried unsuccessfully to adapt the book in the late 1980s and early 2010s. Mani Ratnam relaunched the project in January 2019, calling it his ideal project. The second installment, which hit the theaters on April 28, follows the release of the first part in September 2022. PS-2’s soundtrack was composed by Oscar-winning composer A.R. The music was composed by Rahman.
