A sniper is believed to have targeted the truck from the front in the densely forested area of Bhata Dhurian. Thereafter, other terrorists opened fire and threw grenades at the truck. The soldiers did not get time to retaliate.
The army truck had food items for Iftar. They were going to the nearby village with this. The jawans were from a unit of the Rashtriya Rifles deployed for anti-terrorist operations. Explain that after the attack, the terrorists fled with the weapons of the soldiers.
This is the same army truck which was attacked by terrorists on 20 April. The jawans were carrying vegetables and other items for Iftar.
NSG and NIA gathered information
Experts from various agencies, including the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), have visited the site of the deadly attack in the last two days and gathered clear details about the attack.
However, the area where the attack took place has long been considered terrorism-free. The Bhata Dhurian forest area was an infiltration route for terrorists into India. Terrorists have been coming here by crossing the Line of Control (LoC). This area is full of dense forest and natural caves.
Bomb Disposal Squad and Special Operation Group (SOG) conducted investigation at the spot. He has found evidence of terrorist attack on the spot.
So far more than 12 people in custody
Officials said that more than 12 people have been detained for questioning in connection with the Poonch attack, but no arrests have been made so far. He said the security forces are using drones and sniffer dogs to scan the dense forest, but have not been successful so far.
He said it is believed that the terrorists may have managed to create safe havens in the dense forest to escape the security net or may have infiltrated into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The attack took place at 3 pm on Thursday in the Bhata Dhurian forest. It is 90 kilometers away from Poonch.

Sources said that at present three to four terrorist groups are active in Rajouri and Poonch region. The banned terror group People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), a proxy wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed, has claimed responsibility for the attack. There are reports that it is the handiwork of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Martyrs were residents of Odisha and Punjab
The martyrs have been identified as Lance Naik Debasish Baswal, Lance Naik Kulwant Singh, Sepoy Harkishan Singh, Sepoy Sewak Singh and Havildar Mandeep Singh. Of these, Lance Naik Debasish Baswal is a resident of Odisha, the other four martyrs are residents of Punjab.
Judge, civilian and policemen were killed
Thursday’s attack reminded of the terrorist attack on the vehicle of a judicial magistrate two decades ago. On December 5, 2001, District and Sessions Judge VK Phool, a civilian and two police personnel were killed in an attack in the forests of Dehra ki Gali near Bhata Dhurian forests.
