Population-based delimitation irrational, injustice to southern states: KTR

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has asked the people and politicians of the southern states to raise their voice against the impending injustice in the southern states with the proposed delimitation of constituencies in 2026. On the basis of population.

It is unfortunate that the southern states, which have followed the policies of the Center to control population growth, are being punished for the same in the delimitation of constituencies. Rama Rao said in a statement that believing the words of the Center that controlling population growth would help the country overcome many problems, the southern states followed the population control policies and were successful in the target.

However, the southern states are now facing the threat of injustice for following the words of the Center and controlling the population. Also, the states which did not heed the words of the Center for population control, especially the northern states, are set to gain in the delimitation exercise on the basis of high population growth, he said.

Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana which follow progressive policies to control population growth and rank higher in all human development indices than northern states are being penalized in delimitation, he said . “With only 18% of the population, the southern states are contributing 35% to the country’s GDP and the proposed delimitation on the basis of population is a grave injustice to them”, he felt.

Shri Rama Rao termed the proposed delimitation of constituencies on the basis of population as “not only irrational but can also create disparity in the federal structure” and stressed the need to raise voice against the injustice meted out to the southern states.
